Vietnam Festival 2026 in Tokyo, Japan - A Cultural Rendezvous for Vietnamese People in Tokyo
On May 30th, the Vietnam Festival in Japan 2026 officially opened at Yoyogi Park, Tokyo. This is the 18th time the Vietnam Festival has been held in Japan, further affirming its role as one of the largest and most anticipated annual Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange events in Tokyo.
Attending the opening ceremony were the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, Pham Quang Hieu; Ms. Obuchi Yuko, Chairwoman of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance and Honorary Chairwoman of the Vietnam Festival 2026; Mr. Shimada Tomoaki, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan; Mr. Aoyagi Yoichiro, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee; along with numerous delegates, guests, Japanese friends, the Vietnamese community in Japan, and international visitors. Former Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo also sent a congratulatory image message, emphasizing the profound significance of this exemplary cultural event. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu stressed that over the past 18 years, the Vietnam Festival has developed beyond the scope of a mere annual cultural event, becoming a meaningful meeting point for the people of the two countries. According to the Ambassador, it is a place where Vietnamese and Japanese people share culture, strengthen friendship, and create memorable experiences. The Ambassador also expressed hope that this year's festival will continue to bring the people of the two countries closer together through culture and people-to-people exchanges. With that spirit, especially in the context of culture being a key element in implementing Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture in the new era, the two countries have determined that it is necessary to further promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Representing Japan, Mr. Shimada Tomoaki affirmed that Japan and Vietnam are promoting cooperation in many fields such as politics, economics, and people-to-people exchanges. He believes that cultural exchange activities like the Vietnam Festival will become an important foundation for building an increasingly better Japan-Vietnam relationship.
The welcoming cultural program brought a vibrant atmosphere to the festival. The musical and dance performances, with their Vietnamese influences, combining traditional and modern elements, attracted the attention of a large audience. Familiar melodies, colorful traditional costumes, and performances by artists from the Thang Long Puppet Theatre in Hanoi contributed to recreating the image of a friendly, culturally rich, and dynamic Vietnam in the eyes of international friends.
With its ever-growing scale and rich content, the Vietnam Festival in Japan 2026 is not only an opportunity to promote Vietnamese culture, cuisine, and typical products, but also a vivid symbol of friendship between the people of the two countries.
