Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu Meets Vice Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council Vo Van Minh

On 28 November 2025, at the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu received a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City led by Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council, Mr. Vo Van Minh, during their working visit to Japan.

During the meeting, Ambassador Hieu commended Ho Chi Minh City for its leading role in promoting cooperation with Japan, especially through its extensive network of partnerships with numerous Japanese localities. He emphasized the substantial potential for further cooperation, particularly in the context of Vietnam’s recently streamlined local governance structure, which provides a more efficient administrative foundation for economic growth and international collaboration. The Ambassador affirmed that the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan will continue to serve as a strong bridge to support the city in expanding practical and effective cooperation with Japanese partners across all sectors.

Vice Secretary and Chairman Vo Van Minh briefed the Ambassador on the city’s socio-economic development and highlighted key cooperation achievements with Japan, reaffirming that Japan remains one of Ho Chi Minh City’s most important partners.

In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City has strengthened comprehensive cooperation with 12 Japanese prefectures and cities, including Osaka, Hyogo, Aichi, Yokohama, Yamaguchi, and Nagano. Japan is currently one of the city’s largest foreign investors, with nearly 2,000 FDI projects, over 1,080 Japanese enterprises operating locally, and annual bilateral trade exceeding USD 4 billion. Labor cooperation, cultural exchanges, and educational ties between the city and Japan have also continued to flourish.
