ASEAN Family Day in Tokyo: Connecting the community in diversity

Today (November 15), in Tokyo, the Embassy of Vietnam hosted the ASEAN Family Day in Tokyo (ACT Family Day) 2025.

This is an annual event within the framework of the activities of the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo (ACT) to strengthen friendship, cohesion and close relations between ASEAN representative agencies and families.

This year, the event was attended by more than 300 diplomatic officials and family members from 11 ASEAN embassies in Japan, along with the Japanese representative, the Japan-ASEAN Center. The 2025 event also has a special mark with the first participation of Timor Leste as an official member of ASEAN. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Japan Pham Quang Hieu emphasized:

“ACT Family Day is an opportunity for ASEAN representative agencies to work together to foster solidarity, enhance understanding and strengthen trust, thereby contributing to deepening relations between ASEAN countries in Japan. In particular, the presence of Timor-Leste represents an important step forward in expanding cooperation and building an increasingly strong ASEAN family in Tokyo.”

Speaking at the event, Mr. Hirabayashi Kunihiko - Secretary General of the Japan - ASEAN Center emphasized the importance of the Japan - ASEAN relationship and highly appreciated the significance of the event. Mr. Hirabayashi said:

“I would like to ask why the weather is so beautiful today. It is because Vietnam has brought golden sunshine to Japan. Timor Leste has also brought warm hearts. The entire ASEAN family has also brought a vibrant and impressive atmosphere to Japan. We will continue to build the future for Japan, ASEAN and the world together. I just want to sum it up in one sentence: Cheers to ASEAN! Thank you very much!”

The ASEAN Family Day in Tokyo took place with many sports games, exciting cultural activities and a diverse ASEAN culinary space for both adults and children. The exciting and joyful atmosphere spread throughout the program, creating a warm and close-knit family festival. The event has ended, but the spirit of friendship and solidarity still spread strongly, affirming Vietnam's mark and effective coordinating role in ASEAN activities in Japan in 2025.
