Japan’s Gifu prefecture will give priority to effective cooperation with Vietnam, especially in its major fields such as the support industry, hi-tech agriculture and tourism, said Governor Furuta Hajime.

He made the statement at a seminar to promote investment and tourism in Vietnam held by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) in Gifu prefecture on November 14.
At the event, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nghe An province Ho Duc Phoc; Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh province Tran Tien Dung; and representatives from the Ministries of Planning and Investment, and Culture, Sports and Tourism briefed participants on investment and tourism potential. They also discussed new policies to attract more investment to Vietnam and its central localities.
Yukio Murase, President of the Juroku Bank, one of the 15 biggest banks in Japan, said that Vietnam is a top choice for Japanese businesses.
He and leaders of BIDV and Japan’s Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank committed to providing consulting and financial services for both sides’ business and investment activities in the time ahead.
Leaders of Gifu prefecture and Nghe An province also signed a cooperation agreement in agriculture, tourism and investment. Accordingly, Nghe An will send officials to study Gifu’s high-quality agriculture technology.
On November 16 at the Vietnamese embassy headquarters in Tokyo, a seminar was also held for the two countries’ businesses to introduce opportunities and measures to attract more investment from and increase the efficiency of cooperation with Japan.
Ambassador Cuong and BIDV President Tran Bac Ha signed a Memorandum of Understanding, under which BIDV will provide US$750,000 to help the embassy implement programmes to boost the two countries’ economic cooperation, with priority given to 12 northern and southern-central localities between 2016 and 2020.
