Vietnamese Embassy in Japan Meets with Japanese Media in 2026

     On April 27, 2026, in Tokyo, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan held a meeting attended by numerous major Japanese media outlets such as Akahata (the newspaper of the Japanese Communist Party), Jiji Press, Kyodo, Nihon Denpa News, Asahi Shinbun, Mainichi Shinbun, NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), Nikkei (Japan Economic Times), and local media outlets such as Narita Radio, Ishikawa Television, and representatives from the Vietnamese press. The event was considered an important annual activity aimed at further strengthening and developing Vietnam-Japan relations in the context of increasingly comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

     Opening the meeting, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu provided information on recent important political milestones in Vietnam, including the successful organization of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the consolidation of the high-level leadership apparatus and the holding of the 16th National Assembly elections, extensive administrative reforms, the merger of ministries, departments, and provinces, and the application of a two-tiered administrative system; he also reviewed the outstanding achievements in bilateral relations. The Ambassador emphasized that these are important developments, laying the foundation for a new phase of national development, a new era of progress for the Vietnamese people, opening up more opportunities for cooperation with international partners, including Japan.

    Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu stated that the accompanying role of the media of both countries, especially the Japanese press, is crucial in promoting the positive development of Vietnam-Japan relations. The Ambassador affirmed that the bilateral relationship could hardly have achieved its current progress without the important contributions of the press in providing information, shaping perceptions, and enhancing mutual understanding.

   For their part, representatives of Japanese news agencies and media expressed their positive sentiments towards Vietnam and Japan-Vietnam relations, offering specific, sincere, and open opinions and questions aimed at further deepening bilateral relations in the future.

    Based on this, the Ambassador requested that Japanese media continue to promote the investment and business environment and institutional, economic, and social reforms in Vietnam; and at the same time, enhance comprehensive, objective, and positive reporting on the Vietnamese community in Japan, especially stories of good people and good deeds. These contributions are expected to further deepen trust, connection, and cooperation between the two countries in the future.
