On September 28, 2026, at the Embassy of Viet Nam in Japan, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu received Nguyen Dinh Viet, Chairman of the Son La Provincial People’s Committee, and a provincial delegation during their visit and working trip to Japan.

At the meeting, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu welcomed the Son La delegation and noted that the province has considerable potential and advantages that align well with Japan’s technological strengths, management expertise and cooperation needs, particularly in commercial agriculture, processing industries, renewable energy, ecotourism, cultural tourism and border-gate economic development. He also highly appreciated Son La’s proactive efforts in recent years to promote cooperation with Japanese localities, organizations and businesses, especially Miyagi Prefecture.

Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu congratulated the Son La Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Miyagi Prefectural Department of Agriculture on signing a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural technical cooperation on September 26, 2026, describing it as a new step forward that will help make Son La–Miyagi cooperation increasingly substantive and specialized. The Ambassador encouraged the two sides to promptly translate the MOU into concrete programs and projects, while studying the possibility of establishing an official prefecture–province cooperation framework. He affirmed that the Embassy of Viet Nam in Japan would continue to serve as a bridge, supporting Son La in connecting with Japanese local authorities, businesses, organizations and other partners, thereby promoting more substantive and effective cooperation between Son La and Japan.

On behalf of the delegation, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Viet thanked Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu and the Embassy of Viet Nam in Japan for their continued attention and support in connecting Son La with Japanese partners. He also provided an overview of the province’s potential, strengths and development orientations. Chairman Nguyen Dinh Viet noted that Son La has strengths in commercial agriculture, processing industries, renewable energy, ecotourism and cultural tourism, and expressed the province’s desire to expand cooperation with Japan in high-tech agriculture, preservation and deep processing, quality enhancement, brand development and market expansion for Son La’s agricultural products. He also expressed his wish to continue working closely with the Embassy to further strengthen cooperation with Miyagi Prefecture and other Japanese partners.
