Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu Visits Hiroshima Prefecture to Promote Support for Vietnamese Workers
From December 9-10, 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Japan, Pham Quang Hieu, visited Hiroshima Prefecture and met with Governor Yokota Mika to request support for Vietnamese workers employed in the prefecture.
During the meeting with the Governor, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu congratulated Governor Yokota on her election as Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, one of the prefectures with close ties to Vietnam. Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu wished the Governor success in her new position, hoping she would lead Hiroshima Prefecture to further development and prosperity, and deepen the friendly relations and cooperation between Hiroshima Prefecture and Vietnam. Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu sincerely expressed his sympathy for the losses caused by the mass death of oysters, which has caused significant difficulties for businesses in Hiroshima Prefecture and workers in this sector. He also hoped the prefecture would soon implement measures to support businesses and workers, including Vietnamese workers, in overcoming these difficulties.

Governor Yokota Mika expressed his pleasure and gratitude for the Ambassador's visit to the prefecture. He stated that he would strive to promote Hiroshima's socio-economic development, foster friendly relations and cooperation between Hiroshima Prefecture and Vietnam, and promote oyster farming as one of the prefecture's key economic sectors. Regarding the difficulties caused by the mass death of farmed oysters, Governor Yokota said that the prefecture's departments would hold meetings with relevant agencies to determine the cause and promptly implement measures to support businesses and workers, including Vietnamese workers, so that they can live and work in the prefecture with peace of mind.

On the same day, Mr. Phan Tien Hoang, Head of the Labor Management Department of the Embassy, worked with representatives of the labor union and met with Vietnamese trainees/workers. He shared the concerns of the workers and provided information about the meeting between Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu and Governor Yokota. Regarding the upcoming measures to support businesses and workers in Hiroshima Prefecture, the Vietnamese workers were reassured and affirmed their commitment to working alongside businesses in Hiroshima Prefecture to overcome the current difficulties. Upon learning of Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu's concern and support for the difficulties faced by Vietnamese workers, and his guidance and encouragement to the Hiroshima Prefecture government, the workers were reassured and affirmed their commitment to working together with businesses in Hiroshima Prefecture to overcome the current challenges.
