Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu Received and Hosted a Dinner with General Uchikura Hiroaki, Chief of Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces

         On the evening of April 21, 2026, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Japan Pham Quang Hieu received and hosted a dinner with General Uchikura Hiroaki, Chief of Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, at the Vietnamese Embassy. During the meeting, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu congratulated General Uchikura Hiroaki on his important appointment to the Japan Self-Defense Forces and expressed his hope that, in his new role, he would continue to contribute to the development of Vietnam-Japan relations in general and bilateral defense relations in particular. The two sides also exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern. Regarding bilateral relations, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu stated that Vietnam-Japan relations in general and defense relations in particular are of paramount importance today. In 2023, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World. Through this partnership, bilateral relations have been developing strongly. We hope General Uchikura Hiroaki will soon visit Vietnam to further promote areas of defense cooperation such as exchanges, delegation visits, human resource training cooperation, and the effective implementation of signed agreements. General Uchikura Hiroaki expressed his commitment to making every effort to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation in the future. Regarding the international and regional situation, both sides expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and working together to make positive contributions to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world./.
