Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu attends the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Congress

On February 17, 2025, at the Office of the Japanese National Diet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Japan Pham Quang Hieu attended and spoke at the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Congress.

With the participation of former President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Nikai Toshihiro, the Congress elected Ms. Obuchi Yuko, Member of the House of Representatives, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Liberal Democratic Party Movement as the new President of the Alliance. Speaking at the Congress, Former President Nikai thanked the National Assembly members and members of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance for their support and contribution to effectively promoting the relationship between the two countries in many fields. New President Obuchi affirmed that he attaches importance to the relationship with Vietnam, inherits the desire to promote relations with Vietnam from previous Presidents, and is determined to make efforts to lead the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union to contribute to promoting the relationship between the two countries in all fields. Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu once again expressed his gratitude, appreciation and respect for the important contributions of former President Nikai to the relationship between the two countries, hoping that Mr. Nikai will continue to pay attention to promoting the relationship between the two countries. He conveyed warm congratulations to the new President Obuchi from the Vietnamese leaders, including President of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group, Politburo member, Head of the Central Organizing Committee Le Minh Hung. Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu expressed his belief that with her family tradition (Ms. Obuchi's father, the late Prime Minister Obuchi Keizo, was also the Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance), and her affection for Vietnam, Ms. Obuchi will actively promote her role as leader of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, continuing to make important contributions to promoting bilateral relations in her new position.

On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu answered a number of questions from Japanese parliamentarians about Vietnam's economic situation and the prospects for bilateral relations in the coming time.
